History of St. Paul
St. Paul Lutheran Church is congregation in the Southeastern District of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. In March of 2000, the District called Rev. Richard Schliepsiek to be the part-time mission developer of this new congregation.
St. Paul congregation commits itself to being a Lutheran community of faith, based on:
The Word of God and its primary teaching of Law and Gospel.
The great commission of our Resurrected Lord to evangelize the world and build up the body of Christ.
MORE HISTORY OF ST. PAUL... in the Fall of 1999, Pastor Schliepsiek became aware of the availability of the old Sacred Heart Church in Pinehurst. At the time he was serving an intentional interim at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wilson, NC. Southeastern District officials were contacted about the possibility of starting a mission in Pinehurst. With this wonderful facility available the District approved a two year period of subsidy (and an additional $10,000 for start up expenses.) In March of 2000 Pastor Schliepsiek was called by the District to be the part-time mission developer. Ads in the Pilot were run about a prospective LCMS mission church start-up. From respondents to these ads and other contacts an enthusiastic group was gathered. These folks spent many hours painting and cleaning the building (here Gene Eggers and Bob Wagner must be given special mention for their extra hard work.) Formal renting of the building began in January of 2000 (at $500 per month- currently $600 ). Potlucks and other gatherings for study and planning occurred during the early months of 2000, with our first worship service taking place in late May.
ST. PAUL LUTHERAN CHURCH was chosen by the congregation . Our charter Sunday as a member congregation of the LCMS occurred Nov. 11, 2001; and our subsidy from the Southeastern District ended in August of 2002.
GOD HAS RICHLY BLESSED ST.PAUL IN MANY WAYS. We are a unique congregation and may God lead us to follow Him into the exciting future of His choosing.
THE GROWTH OF ST. PAUL - April of 2006, marked the historic event of our ownership and occupying of our own building at 144 Westgate Drive .
OUR CHURCH HOME. The building we now occupy will give our congregation a good base to grow our Lutheran mission in the Pinehurst and surrounding area.
LOCATION - off HWY 211 going West from Pinehurst, behind the State Farm Insurance building.
